WSOP 2016 Schedule: Key Changes and New Tournaments
The 2016 World Series of Poker (WSOP) has announced several key changes to its schedule, aimed at enhancing the experience for both amateur and professional players. One of the most notable changes is the expansion of the prize zone to 15% of participants in almost all tournaments, up from the previous 10%. This adjustment ensures that more players will have the opportunity to win a prize, with the minimum prize set around 1.5 buy-ins.
The Colossus II series will kick off on June 1 with a special tournament for casino employees, featuring a $565 buy-in and allowing one re-entry. This year, the series promises an exciting start with a guaranteed prize pool of $7 million and a top prize of $1 million. The tournament will include six starting flights on June 2, 3, and 4, with registration open for each day separately. Players can opt to cash out and re-enter the next flight if they have chips remaining, adding a strategic element to the competition.
New tournaments have been added to the schedule, including the Top Up Turbo on June 5 with a $1,000 buy-in. This tournament features 30-minute levels and offers a $2,000 option for a double stack. Additionally, the main event will start on July 9, with 9 finalists guaranteed at least $1,000,000 each. The final table will be determined on July 18, with the tournament resuming on October 30 after a break. The Little One for ONE DROP tournament, with a $1,000 buy-in, will also take place during the main event, offering players the chance to start with double chips through a $111 donation to the One Drop foundation.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
