WSOP 2013: Phil Ivey and Doyle Brunson Steal the Show in First Episode

The WSOP 2013 television broadcast began on the third day, with key players including Mark Krun, Greg Merison, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, and Doyle Brunson. Phil Ivey won a hand with a pair of sevens against an opponent with one overcard. In another notable hand, Doyle Brunson eliminated a player who had a top pair against his overpair.

Mark Krun, a former hockey player and friend of Phil Hellmuth, was highlighted as the chip leader. Phil Mader, a 51-year-old farmer, became a notable figure in the episode. Phil Ivey and Phil Mader were involved in a significant hand where Mader folded despite having a stronger hand.

Doyle Brunson played a hand where he called a 3-bet with Qd Jd and won the pot. Johnny Chen lost a hand with a full house against a higher full house. Melanie Weisner made a significant 3-bet on the river, forcing her opponent to fold. Greg Merison won a hand with a straight flush against two pairs.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
