WSOP 2010 Kicks Off with Exciting Tournaments and Top Contenders
The 41st World Series of Poker (WSOP) starts today with 57 tournaments. The first two tournaments are a $500 event for casino workers and a $50,000 8-game event. Daniel Negreanu is considered a favorite to win, with four WSOP bracelets and 43 cash finishes. Phil Ivey is another top contender, with 7 bracelets and 22 final tables. Carlos Mortensen, Scott Seiver, and Justin Bonomo are also among the favorites.
WSOP Europe 2010 will be held from September 14 to 28 at the Empire Casino on Leicester Square in London. The main event of WSOP Europe will start on September 23 with a buy-in of £10,000. Barry Shulman aims to win the main event of WSOP Europe for the second year in a row. A new tournament, Event #4, is a high-roller heads-up event with a buy-in of £10,000. The Caesars Cup team event has been canceled due to the dominance of the European team last year.
The WSOP Europe schedule includes various events, but some commentators note that the schedule is too spread out, leaving players with little to do between events. Additionally, the overlap with other major poker series, such as WPT and EPT, makes it difficult for players to participate fully in all three series.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
