The Rise and Evolution of Spin & Go: A Poker Revolution
Spin & Go was launched on PokerStars in the fall of 2014. The initial reaction to Spin & Go was critical, with many players comparing it to a lottery. In November 2014, PokerStars announced a significant increase in rake for many disciplines, leading to protests among players. In January 2015, PokerStars temporarily reverted the rake increase due to player protests.
The maximum multiplier in Spin & Go tournaments was increased from x1,200 to x12,000 over time. Professional players have a significant chance of ending a month in the minus due to the high variance in Spin & Go. The first pool of Spin & Go players was formed in April 2016 and consisted of seven members from HyperSchool. By April 2017, the pool had grown to 182 members playing on $6,986,217 in buy-ins.
Pools allowed positive players to receive a stable monthly income without negative months. The new mechanism for profit distribution in pools was introduced to account for the influence of higher EV players on deviation.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
