Spanish Gambling Regulation Delayed by Key Official's Resignation
The regulation of online gambling in Spain faces further delays as Juan Carlos Alfonso, a key figure, resigns. The process of granting licenses remains uncertain.
Enrique Alejo, director of the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego, denied that any licenses have been pre-approved for operators interested in the Spanish regulated market. He also stated that the various dates speculated for the granting of licenses and the start of the regulated market cannot be considered entirely reliable.
Juan Carlos Alfonso, who was second in command at the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego, resigned with immediate effect. Alfonso had directed the process of granting licenses, which is still incomplete. The process of studying the applications is ongoing, and there is no set date for its completion.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
