Spain's Ministry of Finance Allows Gambling Loss Deductions
The Spanish Ministry of Finance has confirmed that gambling losses can be deducted from winnings in the same tax period. This measure aims to align Spanish tax laws with those of other countries, particularly regarding online gambling.
The new rule will likely be reflected in changes to the current Personal Income Tax Law, which will be published in the Official State Gazette. This publication is expected to address several outstanding issues, including the classification of professional poker players as having an economic activity, which could open the door to social security contributions.
Online gambling operations are fully registered and must be available to the Directorate General for Gaming Regulation, making control easier for the administration. However, the management of this issue from the taxpayer's perspective remains unclear, especially for the first tax year 2012.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
