Sean Perry: The Controversial Rising Star of Poker

Sean Perry, the son of World Series of Poker bracelet winner Ralph Perry, has emerged as a controversial rising star in the poker world. Sean Perry won his first poker tournament at an underage charity event. His first recorded tournament score was $781 in a $150 Seminole Hard Rock tournament in 2017. In December of that same year, Perry took 4th in the $10,000 WPT Main Event in Las Vegas for $504,090 and hasn’t looked back since.

Sean Perry is currently ranked third in the PokerGo Tour. He has won a total of six PokerGo Tour tournaments and has cashed for $3,217,506 so far in the series. His first win was in a $10,000 High Roller Series at the Aria for $169,000. He then took down the $25,000 High Roller event at the Venetian for $365,500.

Despite his success, Sean Perry has been criticized for his behavior and decisions. His first appearance on High Stakes Poker was met with some criticism from the seasoned veterans at the table. He alleged he was up “seven figures in baccarat” when he told the table he could easily recoup his losses at the baccarat tables. He then went on to tell a story about how he got pulled over speeding in the emergency lane to a $25,000 High Roller at the Aria in order to avoid the late registration fee. Tom Dwan questioned his decision to risk his life to make it to a poker tournament. Earlier this year, poker pro Daniel Colman made a tweet that claimed Sean Perry had scammed him while playing daily fantasy sports. To sum up the situation, Colman alleges that Perry was actually in control of “randomly” drafted players, and he lost money because of that.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
