Sam Holden: The 22-Year-Old Poker Pro from Eastbourne

Sam Holden, a 22-year-old poker player from Eastbourne, England, is among the finalists of the 2011 WSOP Main Event. Holden started playing poker in university after watching a TV broadcast with commentary by Ilya Gorodetsky. His online poker nickname is SamDMND.

In April 2011, Holden finished 5th in the Sunday Million on PokerStars, earning $88,968. Holden's chip stack at the final table of the 2011 WSOP Main Event was 12,375,000. Holden considers Pius Heinz, his fellow finalist, to be his most dangerous opponent. Holden's key hand in the tournament was against Ryan Lenaghan, where he eliminated Lenaghan and increased his stack to 11,700,000.

Holden plans to focus on live poker games until November, including events like WSOPE in France and EPT in London. Holden was referred to as a "Jobless Brit" by The Sun newspaper, which he took with humor.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
