PokerStars' Radical VIP Changes Spark Outrage Among Players
PokerStars, controlling around 80% of the online poker market, announced changes to its VIP program in early November 2015. The changes were so radical that many players initially thought the information was a Halloween prank. The new leadership of PokerStars is accused of wanting to turn poker into a dull casino game.
The new VIP program is set to reduce the motivation of players who play solely for winnings. The new VIP program increases the rake, which lowers win rates and increases the share of deposits that go to PokerStars. The new VIP program aims to change the distribution of win rates by adjusting the rake. The new VIP program will be implemented starting January 1, 2016.
PokerStars unilaterally violated long-standing agreements with partners and players in 2015 to gain additional profit. The new leadership of PokerStars is accused of wanting to turn poker into a dull casino game.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
