PokerStars Unveils Double Bubble: A New Tournament Format

PokerStars, a leading force in live poker tournaments, has announced a new format called Double Bubble. This innovative structure aims to enhance the player experience by returning buy-ins to all remaining players when half of the field is eliminated. The remaining prize money will be distributed among the top 8% of players, creating a unique and exciting dynamic.

How Double Bubble Works

The Double Bubble format is designed to keep players engaged and motivated throughout the tournament. When 50% of the players are eliminated, the remaining participants will receive their buy-ins back. This means that if you can survive the initial stages, you are guaranteed to get your money back, making the tournament less risky and more enjoyable.

The new format will be tested during the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) in January. This event is known for its lively atmosphere and is the perfect venue to introduce and experiment with new tournament structures. Li Jones, the director of communications at PokerStars, announced the new format, highlighting the company's commitment to innovation and player satisfaction.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
