Poker Slang: How 'Переезд' Became a Russian Poker Term
Alexander Polivanov, writing under the pseudonym paul_ivanov on GipsyTeam, delves into the fascinating world of poker terminology and its evolution in the Russian language. In his article, Polivanov explores how the term 'переезд' has become a staple in Russian poker slang.
The term 'переезд' means winning a pot due to luck. It is derived from the English phrase 'run down', which means to run over someone. In poker, it refers to unexpectedly winning a pot with a weaker hand than your opponent. This term is a neologism created by poker players, who transformed the verb 'переезжать' into a noun, 'переезд'.
The evolution of 'переезд' is not only interesting but also highlights the dynamic nature of language. The term has become so popular that it may soon be used beyond the poker community. Polivanov's article sheds light on how language adapts and evolves, especially when faced with new concepts and jargon.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
