Professional Poker Players Make Mistakes in $250k Tournament
A closed tournament on the Triton series on the Bahamas with a buy-in of $250k attracted 133 entries. The winner of the tournament, Keihan Mokri, received $7,725,000. Professional players played against each other, and amateurs played against each other on the first day.
In one notable hand, Alex Zubov raised 2.5k with from UTG, and Phil Ivey three-bet to 14.5k with on the small blind. On the turn, the solver checks 100% for Zubov with a pair and a top pair, but a pot-control play is needed. Jonathan Jaffe opened with a raise of 3k, Alex Zubov called with and Taylor von Krigenberg called with on the big blind. Taylor von Krigenberg's overbet on the turn was a mistake, as betting with a double gutshot is a good play, but the sizing is incorrect.
Phil Ivey's bet on the river was too greedy, losing more than 1 bb per hand. Alex Foksen's turn sizing does not exist for the solver, with the largest sizing being 30% of the pot. Arthur Martirosyan's preflop call was very negative, and his check-fold on the flop is acceptable, but this hand can be played with a lead. Jesse Lonis's fold on the flop loses a lot of EV, and you should not fold two overcards with a backdoor flush draw in a 3-bet pot. Brendon Wilson's fold on the turn is weakly negative, and Sean Winter's lead on the turn is made with low frequency but sometimes applied. Brendon Wilson almost never folds two overcards and definitely never folds two overcards with an ace. Brendon Wilson's push on the turn is an error, as the range of Sean Winter is quite tight and specific. David Kolman should have simply called the 3-bet. Juan Pardo raised to 12k with from UTG.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
