Phil Galfond's High Stakes Poker Misadventures: A Costly Second Visit
Phil Galfond's first appearance on High Stakes Poker ended with him being kicked out. Two years later, he returned, having won his first bracelet, and was invited back to the show. However, his second visit turned out to be even more disastrous.
In one notable hand, Phil Galfond squeezed with 7s against Eli Elezra and Mike Matuos, and lost to Elky's pocket eights. Galfond checked against Eli Elezra who went all-in with a stronger hand. Despite his aggressive play, Galfond found himself in difficult situations with weaker hands.
Phil Galfond played aggressively against Lex Veldhuis, who folded. Galfond raised with T2o against Daniel Negreanu and Doyle Brunson. Galfond called a raise from Daniel Negreanu with two pairs and a gutshot. In another hand, Galfond called a 3-bet from Eli Elezra with K5o and lost to a full house.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
