Pat Lyons' Remarkable Journey: From WSOP Ban to Online Champion
Pat Lyons, an American professional poker player, has had a remarkable journey in the world of poker. Over the past 16 years, he has won over $1.5 million in live events, including 12 WSOP events. However, his path to success was not without challenges.
In 2016, during the World Series of Poker, Pat Lyons was banned from the Rio casino and WSOP after an argument with an employee over the number of water bottles he could receive. The incident escalated due to his medical condition, and he was subsequently banned. Despite this setback, Lyons continued to excel in other poker series, winning the Arizona State Poker Championship in August 2016, earning $241,700, and the WPT Main Event in Los Angeles, earning $615,300.
Lyons returned to WSOP in 2019 after a three-year ban and made it to 25th place. His determination to win a WSOP bracelet led him to learn online poker using the PokerBros app during the COVID-19 pandemic. His hard work paid off when he won the WSOP 2020 online event, earning a gold bracelet. Lyons' journey from being banned to becoming an online champion is a testament to his resilience and dedication.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
