MTT Poker Profits Decline: What's Happening to the ROI?
The profitability of MTT poker players has been a hot topic, with many theories circulating about the reasons behind the decline. According to leading analyst Evgeniy Sidorovskiy of Macropoker, the percentage of profitable MTT players on PokerStars has been decreasing year over year.
In 2013, 76% of players who participated in 5,000 or more MTTs finished the year in profit. This number decreased to 72.1% in 2014 and further to 69.4% in 2015. The average annual decrease in the ROI of MTT regulars is approximately 1.5%.
The ROI of students at the 2CardsCollege poker school has shown significant improvements after starting their education. For the $5-11 limit, the ROI increased by 1.1%. For the $10-25 limit, the ROI increased by 9.2%. In non-turbo tournaments with fewer than 1,000 players, the ROI increased by 9.1%. For non-turbo tournaments with fewer than 500 players on limits $40+, the ROI increased by 5.9%.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
