Matthew Ashton: The Poker Pro's Journey and Insights

Matthew Ashton, a seasoned poker professional, recently shared insights into his career, preferences, and experiences in the world of poker. At 26 years old, Ashton is known for his love of mixed games and heads-up poker, with a particular liking for Omaha Hi-Lo and Stud Hi-Lo.

Ashton's journey in poker began at the age of 15 when he heard about the game from a school friend. He quickly started playing for real money and building his bankroll through freerolls. His biggest loss in a month was a six-figure sum in 2010, which followed his best month in poker. Despite this, Ashton considers himself fortunate to have a relatively stable graph for a high-stakes player, attributing this to his skill in one-on-one games and strategic table selection.

Ashton also shared some of his biggest mistakes, including playing drunk at the age of 18 and losing a significant part of his bankroll. Another notable mistake was leaving a casino alone after winning a large amount of money. These experiences have taught him valuable lessons about discipline and safety in the poker world. Ashton also mentioned Mikael Thunberg as one of the most respected players in his game, highlighting Thunberg's willingness to play against anyone and his strategic approach to the game.
