Jungleman Dan Cates Wins Back-to-Back WSOP Gold Bracelets

Dan Cates won the $50,000 Poker Players Championship at the World Series of Poker, securing his second WSOP gold bracelet and a $1,449,103 payday.

Cates started out as one of 112 entries to the prestigious event, previous winners ranging from Chip Reese in the inaugural 2006 running through Michael Mizrachi’s three victories to Cates’ own takedown last year.

Five days of nine-game mix action would be required to separate this year’s field, which included Eli Elezra, Jennifer Harman, Scott Seiver, Brian Rast, Erik Seidel, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Bryn Kenney and Phil Hellmuth.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
