Poker Pros Analyze Jonathan Little's Final Hand at US Poker Open

Jonathan Little played a final hand at the US Poker Open tournament in Las Vegas. Little was eliminated in 6th place after not folding on the river with a top pair. David Coleman opened with a mini-raise of 120,000 from the button, and Little defended the BB.

On the flop, Little played a check-raise of 80,000-225,000, and on the turn, a check-call of 260,000 into a pot of 780,000. Little called Coleman's push on the river after a long thought. Little sought help from his Twitter followers, asking how to optimally play the hand.

Chris Brewer advised that Little's check-raise on the flop was a mistake and suggested alternative plays. Brewer explained that with risk premium, Little should have pushed all-in on the flop. Girafganger7 suggested that ICM influence would prevent a flop raise, and Little should consider folding on the river. Ryan O’Donnell noted that the presence of a ten in Little's hand blocks many bluffs from Coleman on the turn. Matt Affleck advised that the flop should almost always be a call, and the turn should be a check with the entire range. Tristan Wade praised Little's play and suggested alternative sizings on the flop. Aaron Barone suggested that Little should have called the flop but would not fold given the hand's development. Joe Cassandra questioned Little's reads on Coleman's range and suggested a 3-bet preflop. Jacob Clady praised Little's hand as a good bluff-catcher, blocking many of Coleman's potential hands.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
