JNandez: Why EV Win Rates Don't Tell the Whole Story in Poker
Poker player JNandez recently shared his November results and insights on the relevance of EV win rates. JNandez played primarily fast poker at $5/$10 and regular tables at $10/$25 on partypoker, winning $70,000 over 60,000 hands.
JNandez's sum of all-in differences for the month was almost $32,000 in his favor. However, he won approximately $22,000 by EV, excluding rakeback and leaderboard money. He discussed a specific hand where he had a strong two-suited hand but lost to an opponent with overpairs and a gutshot. JNandez mentioned that statistical programs like Holdem Manager cannot determine real win rates because they do not account for the unique nature of each hand and the impact of variance.
JNandez believes that GTO solvers are essential for effective poker analysis. He analyzed a hand using a GTO solver, showing that folding to a 4-bet is more profitable than calling. This analysis helps determine the true win rate by demonstrating the exchange of mathematical expectation between players. JNandez emphasized that understanding GTO is crucial for improving one's poker game and making informed decisions.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
