Isaac Kempton Wins First US Poker Open Title, Bags $279,000
Isaac Kempton made a stunning debut in the US Poker Open, winning Event 6 for a substantial $279,000. The tournament, which was a $15,000 buy-in PLO event, attracted 62 entries, including notable players such as Daniel Negreanu, Erik Seidel, and Ike Haxton. Only nine players made it to the paid spots, with Negreanu finishing in 11th place.
Masashi Oya burst the bubble, and Gregory Shuda emerged as a surprise, eliminating two players in a single hand. Shuda's impressive performance continued into the second day, where he knocked out Ben Lamb, leaving Shuda, Kempton, and Martin Zamani to battle for the title. Zamani, known for his role in the Bryn Kenney cheating allegations, finished in third place.
Kempton, who moved to Las Vegas to pursue poker, revealed that his career tournament earnings surpassed $3 million with this win. He expressed his preference for PLO, stating that it offers more gambling opportunities compared to Hold'em. Kempton's strategic play and bold moves secured him the victory, overcoming a chip deficit to defeat Shuda in the heads-up battle.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
