Illinois Man Wins $1M After Mistaking Prize for $1,000
An Illinois man received an envelope with lottery tickets for his birthday. One of those tickets would turn out to be a seven-figure winner. The man initially thought he had won $1,000 and demanded the lottery pay him that amount.
The man and his wife went to the Illinois Lottery to claim the prize. The man and his wife had planned to spend the money on the kids’ birthdays and celebrate their 40th anniversary together by going on a cruise. The man had also placed a side bet, fetching him an extra $2, pushing his total prize to $1,000,002.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
