Hong Kong Amateur Poker Player Wins Big in Asian Poker Tour Taipei
Lau Chun Shing, a Hong Kong real estate agent, made a significant mark in the poker world by topping a field of 2,354 entries to win the Asian Poker Tour Taipei Main Event. This victory secured his first major live tournament title and the top prize of $532,483.
Known among his poker friends as 'Wo Jai,' Lau Chun Shing started playing poker in 2018. He began with small cash games with friends and gradually moved into tournaments. His first tournament experience was at the end of 2023, and since then, he has participated in several APT events, performing well in side events despite not seeing results in the main events until now.
In the final hand, Lau Chun Shing defeated Josh McCully heads-up for the title. McCully earned a career-best haul of $304,608 as the runner-up. Ren Lin, a highly-decorated poker tournament regular, placed eighth for $57,824 and 180 points. With this performance, Ren Lin has moved into fourth place in the 2026 POY standings presented by CoinPoker, with three POY-qualified titles already this year. Ren Lin now has more than $20.4 million in career cashes.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
