Espen Yorstad: The Unseen Struggles After Winning the WSOP Main Event
Espen Ullén Yorstad, a renowned MTT player, recently shared his experiences following his victory in the WSOP Main Event in 2022. Yorstad won the Tag Team tournament with Patrick Leonard for $148,067 just two weeks before his Main Event win. However, the journey to receiving his $10,000,000 prize was not as smooth as one might expect.
Yorstad revealed that it took him six months to finally receive his prize money. He attributed this delay to the complex process and the sheer amount of money involved. Despite the challenges, Yorstad remained focused on his game and continued to compete at the highest level.
Yorstad's journey in poker began at the age of 16, where he initially saw the game as a video game. He compared his early poker days to playing games like Warcraft 3, Dota, and Counter-Strike, where the goal was to compete and develop skills. Over time, his perspective on poker evolved, and he began to treat it as a serious career. This shift in mindset allowed him to achieve significant success in the poker world, including his victory in the WSOP Main Event.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
