Durrrr Responds to Full Tilt Poker Scandal: 'I Wanted to Help Players'

Tom Dwan, widely known by his online handle Durrrr, has addressed user questions about the Full Tilt Poker scandal. Dwan traveled to Ireland in late April to discuss the potential purchase of Full Tilt Poker with his friends. He revealed that he knew about the issues at Full Tilt and wanted to share the information but was bound by a non-disclosure agreement.

Dwan and Phil Galfond each contributed $1 million to help pay back Full Tilt Poker players. Dwan expressed his shock at the government's inaction and his relief at the recent developments. He also discussed the financial mismanagement and strategic failures of Full Tilt's leadership.

Full Tilt Poker owed players approximately $390.7 million as of March 31, 2011, but had only $59.6 million in their accounts. Raymond Bitar received around $35 million in distributions and at least another $6.5 million as a share of the profits. Howard Lederer received around $37 million in distributions and another $4 million as a share of the profits. Chris Ferguson received around $25 million in distributions. Raef First received approximately $11.7 million. Phil Ivey, referred to as 'Player Number 1,' received around $40 million in distributions and 'millions of dollars' in loans, of which $4.4 million was not returned. The total amount distributed among the 19 owners was $443.9 million.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
