Doug Polk Wins Big in Late-Night Poker Showdown with Bill Perkins

Doug Polk, known for his retirement from professional poker, recently made headlines by winning more than $200,000 from Bill Perkins in a late-night, high-stakes online poker battle. The intense match, which took place at $200/$400 HUNL, lasted for 1,650 hands and ended at 4 am. Despite his retirement, Polk's skills remained sharp, allowing him to dominate the game.

Bill Perkins, a multi-millionaire former hedge fund trader, acknowledged his loss on Twitter, stating that he lost 5.5 buy-ins to Polk. Perkins, who is known for his luxurious lifestyle, including playing poker from his yacht in the Caribbean, took the loss in stride. He also shared some of his mistakes, including misreading his charts and getting into a situation that cost him three buy-ins.

The late-night poker windfall led to plenty of jokes about Polk not being retired, as well as some about Perkins' philosophy of 'Die with Zero,' the title of his book. Perkins is currently preparing for an upcoming heads-up battle with Landon Tice, another high-stakes poker player. The match, also at $200/$400 HUNL, will see Tice giving Perkins a 9bb/100 head start, amounting to $720,000 in the 20k hands match. With pots regularly surpassing the $50k mark, the experienced Perkins is still the underdog in this upcoming battle.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
