Amateur Poker Player Danney Wu Wins $281,000 at WSOP 2021

Danney Wu, an amateur poker player, won $281,000 and a gold bracelet at the WSOP 2021 Event #8: $600 No-Limit Hold'em Deepstack. The tournament had 4,527 entries and Danney Wu defeated Ari Mezrich in the heads-up final.

Danney Wu is an amateur player who usually plays Home Games with friends for $20. Before this win, his largest prize was $13,000 for 7th place in a $1,000 buy-in tournament. None of the five finalists had previously won a bracelet. Four out of the five finalists were from the United States.

The tournament was a significant event, with 4,527 entries. Danney Wu's victory was particularly notable because he is not a professional player. He mentioned that he plans to participate in the Millionaire Maker and Main Event tournaments following his win. The final table did not include any previous bracelet winners, making this a historic moment for all five players.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
