Daniel Negreanu Reflects on His Worst Year Ever in Poker
Daniel Negreanu, one of the most renowned figures in the poker world, has shared his reflections on the 2023 year, which turned out to be the worst in his career. He finished the year with a loss of over $2 million, a stark contrast to his usual positive results.
Negreanu played an impressive 145 tournaments in 2023, the most he has played in recent years. Despite the high number of tournaments, his biggest win was only $120,000, and he won over $100,000 only two times throughout the year.
Reflecting on his performance, Negreanu attributed his poor results to several factors, including the psychological phenomenon known as the 'winner's tilt,' which led him to play more carelessly after a significant win in December 2022. He also mentioned that playing too frequently and not taking enough breaks contributed to his fatigue and decreased concentration.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
