The Dang Brothers: How They Made $17.5 Million from Online Poker and Retired

The Dang brothers, Hac and Di, profited $17.5 million from online poker. Born in Vietnam, the brothers moved to the United States in the early 2000s to attend university. The brothers discovered online poker while studying at the University of Virginia.

In 2006, the Dang brothers started playing on Full Tilt Poker, one of the biggest online poker sites at the time. Hac Dang earned well into eight-figures from online poker. Di Dang once played in the biggest cash game in the world in a Macau casino.

In 2011, the US Department of Justice shut down several major online poker sites, including Full Tilt Poker, and charged their owners with fraud and money laundering. In a 2012 interview with PokerStrategy.com, Hac Dang explained that he and his brother decided to retire from online poker because they had achieved financial freedom and wanted to explore other opportunities.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
