Crown Melbourne Pauses 2021 Aussie Millions Due to COVID-19

Crown Melbourne has suspended the scheduling of the 2021 Aussie Millions Poker Tournament due to COVID-19 concerns. The announcement was made via the casino's online home page and social-media accounts, leaving the fate of the series, which has been held annually since 1998, in limbo.

The casino cited the health and safety of its community, including employees, guests, and players, as its top priority. The decision to pause the event comes as Australia has reported only about ten new COVID-19 cases a day on average for the past several weeks and has had no deaths since October 28.

Despite Australia's success in controlling the virus, the Aussie Millions, which draws a high percentage of its entrants from other countries, is likely to be impacted by ongoing travel restrictions and quarantine requirements.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
