Chris Ferguson Wins Player of the Year at WSOP Europe
Chris Ferguson has made a triumphant return to the poker scene, securing the Player of the Year title at WSOP Europe. His victory in the €1,650 PLO Hi/Lo 8 Better tournament was a pivotal moment in his career.
Ferguson's victory in the tournament secured him the Player of the Year title at WSOP Europe. This achievement was particularly significant because it came after a five-year hiatus from tournament poker. Ferguson had taken a break from the game from 2011 to 2015, during which he did not think about poker and did not miss it. However, he noted that after such breaks, players often return with a fresh perspective and improved results.
Ferguson's return to the poker scene was marked by several notable achievements. He set a record for the most cashes in a single WSOP series, with 17 cashes in Las Vegas and six in Rozvadov. This surpassed the previous record held by Roland Israelashvili, who was also known for his mini-cash successes. Despite his impressive results, Ferguson only received more than $5,000 in five of his 23 cashes, and in 14 instances, he did not even double his buy-in. This was partly due to the structure of the prize pools, which has been a subject of criticism from players like Mikhail Semen.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
