Catawba Nation Opens First Phase of $1.2 Billion Casino in North Carolina

The Catawba Nation opened the first phase of a $1.2 billion casino in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. The Kings Mountain Two Kings Casino features 1,350 slot machines, 22 live table games, and a sportsbook. The Catawba Nation plans to build two additional casinos in North Carolina.

Catawba Chief Brian Harris announced plans for two additional casinos during the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the first phase of the Two Kings Casino Resort. North Carolina has two other casinos, both operated by the Cherokees in the cities of Cherokee and Murphy.

The completed facility is slated to be finished by 2027. The casino doesn’t currently include a poker room. The tribe hasn’t said if the final property will eventually include a venue for card players.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
