Call of Duty's Return to Twitch Boosts Esports Betting Hopes

The Call of Duty League (CDL) has made a triumphant return to Twitch, marking a significant milestone in the world of esports. The opening weekend saw a peak viewership of approximately 200,000 concurrent viewers, a substantial increase from last year's figures. This return was highly anticipated by team personnel and fans alike, who had expressed their desire to see the league back on the popular streaming platform.

The Call of Duty League 2023: Stage 1 Major Qualifiers reached a peak viewership of 192,943, the highest for a non-World Championship event and the fourth-highest overall in the league's history. This impressive viewership number bodes well for the league, as viewership typically increases for LAN-based 'majors' rather than online qualifiers.

The esports industry is projected to exceed $13 billion in value by 2023, and the convergence of Call of Duty and Twitch could be the catalyst for its surging popularity. Grant Johnson, CEO of Esports Entertainment Group, emphasized that future bettors are emerging from the gaming community, highlighting the importance of engaging a younger generation that grew up playing video games.
