California Tribes Aim to Legalize Sports Betting by 2028
The California Nations Indian Gaming Association (CNIGA) announced plans to place a ballot initiative for legalizing retail and online wagering before voters in 2028.
CNIGA Chairman James Siva stated that the tribes are unified and prepared to act against prediction market firms. Previous sports betting initiatives in California, including those in 2022 and 2024, have failed.
Siva emphasized the urgency to prevent prediction markets from taking gaming market share in California. The tribes are massing in number and unified in purpose, aiming to protect their interests in the state's gaming market.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
