Australia Launches Taskforce to Combat Online Casino Scams Targeting Vulnerable Users
The Australian government is taking decisive action against online casino scams with the launch of a new taskforce. The National Anti-Scam Center, operating under the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, has initiated this effort to shut down fake gambling websites that accept money from customers and never release those funds.
These scams are particularly harmful to First Nations Australians, who make up nearly 50% of all people reporting losses. The financial impact is severe, with losses in 2025 reaching AUD$1.6m, which is triple the amount lost in 2024.
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is also involved in the crackdown, targeting offshore casinos and sportsbooks operating without a license, as well as influencers who promote these illegal operations.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
