Aussie Millions $100,000 Tournament: Record Entries and Big Names

The Aussie Millions tournament with a $100,000 buy-in attracted 76 entries, with 39 players making 37 re-entries. Isaac Haxton set a record for the most buy-ins, spending $600,000 on the tournament. Daniel Negreanu added 5 buy-ins to the prize pool, while Justin Bonomo, Dan Shak, Martin Jacobson, and Paul Newman each made 3 re-entries.

The tournament format included PL preflop/NL postflop with a 30-second time limit on each decision. This rule was praised by Jonathan Duhamel, who stated it made the game faster and more enjoyable. However, Eugene Timoshenko and Paul Newman expressed dissatisfaction with the time limit rule. Marvin Rettenmaier, who registered only on the second day, also criticized the time limit rule.

Douglas Polk, who quickly busted out, made a re-entry and sat at a table with Ryan Riess. At the end of the first day, Douglas Polk and Ryan Riess were in the middle of the table with 177,500 and 208,500 respectively. 29 players advanced to the second day, with Mike McDonald leading with 468,500 chips. Daniel Negreanu made six re-entries and ended the day with an average stack of 221,500 chips. Registration and re-entries were open until the start of the second day, with 10 players taking advantage of this. The prize pool exceeded $7,400,000 with the top prize being $2,000,000.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
