Antonio Esfandiaris Reflects on His High Stakes Poker Journey

Antonio Esfandiaris, a prominent figure in the poker world, recently shared his memories of the High Stakes Poker show. He was invited to participate in the debut season by producer Mori Eskandani, who saw potential in Esfandiaris' talkative nature, which was perfect for television.

Esfandiaris considered himself a favorite in the High Stakes Poker lineup, despite not being a frequent cash game player. He enjoyed the dynamic he had with Phil Laak, stating that together they were much more entertaining than apart. However, he found it difficult to play against Tom Durrrr Dwan, describing him as a strong and fearless player.

Looking back at his High Stakes Poker journey, Esfandiaris ended up in the minus after all seasons. He commented on a memorable hand against Daniel Negreanu where he lost a $173k pot, and another against Barry Greenstein where he won a $600k pot. Esfandiaris' insights into these hands provide a fascinating look into the mind of a high-stakes poker player.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
