Aaron Zang Wins Triton Vietnam Short Deck Main Event for $1.5M

Aaron Zang has made history by winning the Triton Vietnam Short Deck Main Event, taking home an impressive $1,544,000. The event, held in Vietnam, featured a $4.9 million prize pool with 49 entries, including 26 unique players and 23 re-entries.

The tournament kicked off with 21 players, and the goal was to reduce them to the seven paid spots. Daniel Dvoress was unfortunately the bubble boy, eliminated just before the money bubble burst.

With $257,000 locked up, the remaining seven players could breathe more easily. However, Triton Poker ambassador Jason Koon, who had promised to win two events, fell short when he lost big pots to Zhang and Zang. He finished 7th, setting a new record of five Triton wins but still had one more event to go. Paul Phua, who has more Triton cashes than anyone else, finished in 6th place. Mikita Badziakouski, chasing Koon’s five wins, saw a rivered straight crack his pocket queens, finishing in 5th place for $416,000. Phil Chiu followed him to the rail courtesy of Zang, another straight appearing to crack a big pocket pair, and then Lee’s hopes of a debut win were shattered by Zhang. Michael Zhang finished as the runner-up, earning $1,115,000.
