888 Settles Tax Debt as Poker Pros Win Big at WPT and LAPT
In a significant development, 888 Holdings PLC has agreed to pay €8.7 million in back taxes and penalties to Hacienda. This settlement clears the way for the company to receive a Spanish online gaming license and begin operations in early June.
WPT Championship Results
Marvin Rettenmaier emerged victorious in the WPT Championship, securing a prize of $1,196,858. Rettenmaier, who is also a newly appointed ambassador for PartyPoker, defeated Philippe Ktorza in a thrilling heads-up battle. Ktorza put up a strong fight, climbing from the lower ranks to secure the second position. Michael Mizrachi rounded out the top three, finishing third.
LAPT Punta del Este Winners
The Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) Punta del Este saw Marcelo Fonseca claim the top prize of $144,240. The Brazilian player bested Ángel Guillén in a heads-up battle that lasted over an hour and a half. Francisco Baruffi, another Brazilian, finished third, notably eliminating Juan Francisco García, known as 'paulwitter,' from the tournament.
